Egg-box foam - all you need to know
One of the most common applications for egg-box foam is to improve acoustics in rooms. Depending on the application there are foams with different qualities and also fire protection classes. This is particularly important for foams - especially when used in the vicinity of electrical appliances. In what follows we will explain what you should and should not use egg-box foam for.By the way, you don't have to go to the DIY store - because right here we have the largest selection and you can buy the egg-box foam cheap and get it delivered directly.
Foam with profiled surface reduces reverberation in rooms
If the reverberation and noise within your room is too long or too loud, egg-box foams are ideally suited as absorbers. The surface structure captures and dampens the sound - you get beautiful, rich room acoustics. In our shop you can also get self-adhesive egg-box foam, so that installation becomes child's play and can be done with just a bit of manual work.
We are often asked what is the difference between egg-box foam and pyramid foam. Answer: From an acoustic point of view, there is virtually no difference. Only the look is different. Pyramid foam is flush with the end of the panel, making it look more uniform on the wall or ceiling. However, egg-box foam is usually much cheaper. The question of appearance is subjective anyway - many of our customers prefer egg-box foam simply for reasons of cost - it is cheap.
Egg-box foam, on the other hand, is not well suited for sound insulation
Again and again one finds statements on the Internet to the effect that you can use egg-box foam for sound insulation. But we do not recommend it.It is, as described above, well suited for reverberation reduction. However, when it comes to noise insulation from the outside, e.g. insulating walls or compressors or equipment, etc., other foams are superior to egg-box foam.In the category "sound insulation" we list some more suitable products that have more mass and can also counteract sound and noise.
You can find more information about noise insulation there. We also have well-informed guides there to show you the physical background of why heavy foams should be preferred for good insulation.Of course you can also use profiled foams for insulation, as many people do in the rehearsal room, but by comparison other foams are much more effective and not necessarily more expensive. We explain the difference in the guide "Sound absorption and sound insulation".
Note the colour. As you have surely already seen, there are different colours. Anthracite, white, light grey or coloured. We carry all variants. With a white egg-box foam, the light in the room is also not affected - it remains bright. However, we only supply this version in the form of acoustic foam made of Basotect. This foam does not turn yellow. Normal foam reacts both to UV rays (= daylight) and to the oxygen content of the air. On the Internet you will find many white foams offered at the cheapest prices - make sure they don't turn yellow - normal PU foam does. After only a few days, these foams become yellowish and really unsightly. Even the low prices do not make up for this characteristic. That is why we only offer white acoustic foams made of Basotect. This foam does not yellow and therefore stays colourful for decades.
Self-adhesive foam is particularly easy to install
Of course, in addition to different colours, there are also different versions of egg-box foam. We therefore offer this soundproofing product both as self-adhesive and non-adhesive. The non-adhesive version requires additional adhesive - e.g. our spray adhesive or assembly adhesive. The processing is very easy, and because the material weighs very little you can glue it almost anywhere without much effort. You will find more information here.
The assembly becomes even easier of course if you use our self-adhesive egg-box foams. Here we have already applied an adhesive tape on the back. All you have to do is remove the protective film and you can immediately apply it to almost all dust-, grease-free and dry substrates. The acoustic foam can be immediately affixed. Since our adhesive is water-soluble (the adhesive we use is dispersion-based), the foams can be easily removed later. The adhesive is also odourless and completely non-toxic.In principle, you can use our egg-box foam everywhere - since we only produce in Germany, and especially in the field of foam , this is an advantage not to be underestimated.
